KANYE WEST & DONDA’S HOUSE INSTITUTE ‘GOT BARS?’ – A MUSIC INITIATIVE FOR AT-RISK YOUTH IN CHICAGO

As of late, most news referring to Kanye West has been in a negative light, whether it be about his changing music or frequent bashing of the papparazzi. Because of this, it is nice to hear positive news out of his camp, especially when it comes to helping the youth in his hometown of Chicago.

Donda’s House, a charity co-founded by Kanye and named after his late mother, Dr. Donda West and the Windy City’s St. Sabina Church have teamed up to create the Got Bars? program, in an effort to serve at-risk youth in Chicago’s South Side.
Got Bars? is a free 10-week musical instruction program that will teach young people aged 15 to 24 to write and record their own music. Classes will be held in The ARK of St. Sabina, the church’s youth community center

My mom spent her life as an educator and I am happy that Donda’s House can pick up her torch and honor her life’s mission.
The studio sessions will be led by none other than Kanye protege, Grammy-award winning rapper Rhymefest. In addition to music instruction, there will be a exercise and nutrition component of the program, spearheaded by a yet-to-be named former professional football player.
Upon completion of the program, students’ music will be compiled into an EP, and released via Donda’s House. If you live in the Chicago area and fit the age requirements, visit Dondashouse.com to apply. Applications are due on Friday, August 2nd.
